Meditation Material for Non-Mathematicians

I was in a meeting at work earlier this week with some math-types and the subject of imaginary numbers came up. It was explained that the square root of negative one is an example of an imaginary number. I understand the concept of "square root", but the square root of a negative number completely evades me.

As the conversation continued I spent a few moments sincerely trying to conceptualize the sqaure root of negative one. Then I turned to my boss and told him that I think I could actually meditate on the square root of negative one because when I think about it my mind goes completely and utterly blank. Sort of like it does when I think about the sound of one hand clapping. Fortunately, my continued employment does not rely on my math skills. Or on my ability to keep my thoughts to myself.

Oh man, I DO love Jim!!!!!!! No donations to Wikipedia from me though!! I can contemplate the clapping of one hand - but I am so not a mathematician - I can not contemplate - let alone meditate on imaginary numbers.
