Siouxon Creek

Short history of the pronunciation of "Siouxon" (for our little hiking group):

2001 - 2004 "Sigh-On"

• incorrect pronunciation by anyone's standards
• no good excuse for such behavior

2004 - mid 2007 "Sue-Sawn"

• rhyms with Tucson
• correct pronunciation

mid 2007 - present "Schezwan"

• as in "Schezwan Chicken"
• this pronunciation was the direct result of adding Matt to the hiking mix
  
  

This weekend our hike chose us more than we chose it. Initially we decided to hike at Trapper Creek. We accidentally headed in the wrong direction, so decided on Silver Star because it happened to be in the direction we were heading. Then we missed a turn and were no longer heading toward Silver Star, but were headed toward Siouxon Creek.

So, Siouxon it was. The weather was beautiful. The hike was hard enough to wear us out, but not too hard. And at the end of the day, we were all craving chicken--Schezwan chicken of course.
